Frequently Asked Questions
Setup & Installation
-
No plumber, no drilling, no fuss. Set it on the counter, plug it in, fill the 4.8-litre tank — clean water, hot or cold, in a few minutes.
-
No. The tank is removable and you fill it yourself, so the unit goes wherever suits you — kitchen counter, rental flat, office, salon. Just needs a plug.
-
The MY™ Station starter kit includes a Super Filter and a 3-pack of MY™ Bases samples to try each mineral profile. You'll also find a maintenance kit for descaling.
Specs & Water Options
-
Compact: 22 cm wide, 34 cm deep, 40.5 cm tall. It sits comfortably on a standard kitchen counter without hogging space.
-
Room temperature by default, and instant hot water at four settings — 50°C, 75°C, 85°C and 92°C — no kettle, no waiting. Want it cold? Keep a jug in the fridge.
-
About 30W while remineralising at room temperature, up to 1600W for a moment when heating water, and just 8W on standby.
-
The body and tank are made of food-grade ABS plastic. The parts that touch hot water are medical-grade silicone and stainless steel. The MY™ Bases bottles are made of borosilicate glass. You can be sure the purified water itself never touches plastic.
-
The MY™ Station is designed in the United Kingdom by the Sküma Water team, under the direction of a French engineer, with the instant hot-water module developed in Germany. Final assembly and quality control take place in the UK or the Netherlands. Some components are manufactured in China to exact specifications — but the design, engineering, assembly and quality control all take place in Europe.
-
Fewer plastic bottles, durable materials, and a device designed to be recycled at the end of its life. Based on 2 litres of daily use, the device's carbon footprint is about 30 kg CO2e in the first year and 7-11 kg CO2e per year after that — compared to about 60 kg CO2e a year for the same amount of bottled water. The impact of manufacturing the device is typically offset within 4-6 months of use. Body: food-grade, BPA-free ABS. MY™ Bases bottles: reusable borosilicate glass. Packaging: 100% recyclable cardboard.
-
There's always about 1.5 litres of filtered water ready to pour. Topping that back up takes 5 to 8 minutes, depending on your tap water.
Filtration
-
Of course you can! Tap water is safe to drink, but 'safe' and 'clean' are two different things. On its way through the pipes, tap water picks up rust, limescale, traces of lead and copper, chlorine, trihalomethanes (THMs), microplastics, pesticides, pharmaceutical residues, and persistent pollutants like PFAS ('forever chemicals') — none of which city treatment plants fully filter out. Sküma's reverse osmosis removes 99.9% of these contaminants, and remineralisation adds back exactly the minerals you actually want in your drinking water.
-
The most thorough membrane filtration around — it catches the vast majority of what's dissolved in your water. It also strips out minerals along the way, which is exactly why we remineralise afterward with MY™ Bases.
-
The Super Filter removes 99.9% of contaminants — including PFAS ('forever chemicals'), pesticides, heavy metals and pharmaceutical residues — plus 98% of microplastics, 96% of TDS and 61% of TFA. These results were independently tested and certified in February 2025 by a COFRAC-accredited French laboratory, using over 230 contaminants based on French Regional Health Agency reports and NSF/ANSI standards.
-
Filter jugs can only remove part of what's in your water, because their filtration power and stages are limited — they only partially remove chlorine, some heavy metals, or pesticides. Our Super Filter is 3-in-1: three filtration stages, including a reverse osmosis membrane, removing chlorine, heavy metals, pesticides, pharmaceutical residues, microplastics, other micro-contaminants, nitrates and sulphates. And you only need to replace the Super Filter once a year!
-
Each filter handles 750-1,100 litres of tap water, depending on hardness — in practice, once a year. A red light on the front tells you when. Away for a while? Keep it in the fridge, and replace it if it's been unused for more than 6 weeks.
-
Yes. Send it back to us and we make sure it's processed properly — it's not the kind of thing that belongs in your regular recycling bin.
-
A TDS meter gives you a fast read: the higher the number, the harder your water and the more it's likely carrying. As a rough guide — 0-50 ppm is very low mineral content, 50-100 ppm is low, 100-300 ppm is typical tap water.
Maintenance & Care
-
Every 3-4 months (roughly every 12-16 weeks), or after 8 weeks of not using it.
-
Unplug it first. Our limescale remover takes care of any buildup brilliantly — rinse the tank well before switching it back on.
-
Reverse osmosis is thorough — it flushes filtered-out particles into the wastewater tank along with some water. Depending on how hard your tap water is, that's roughly a quarter to a third of what goes in. No need to pour it away — it's great for watering your plants!
-
Away for a short while? No problem, the water inside is fine to leave. If it's been more than 2 weeks, empty the unit, keep the filter in the fridge, and run a rinse cycle before your first glass back. If it's been more than 6 weeks, replace the filter instead.
-
Yes. It's designed to be used every time you clean and descale, then dried and stored for next time. Don't toss it after one use.
Mineralisation
-
Remineralisation means that after reverse osmosis filtration, the essential minerals — magnesium, calcium, potassium and others — that were removed during purification get added back to the water. This matters because technically pure reverse osmosis water is almost mineral-free. That's great for purification, but drinking it long-term can leave your body short on minerals it needs every day — magnesium and calcium, for example, play a role in muscle function, heart rhythm and bone health. Sküma devices handle remineralisation automatically: right after filtering, the water is dosed with exactly the right amount of minerals, so it comes out crystal clear with a fresh taste and balanced pH. No mixing it yourself, no buying bottled water — you get the convenience of tap water and the quality of spring water, in one device.
-
Sure — on its own it's about as pure as water gets, thanks to reverse osmosis. But that same process strips out a lot of the minerals naturally found in water too — calcium, magnesium, potassium. Add MY™ Bases back in and you get a mineral balance suited to your hydration, better taste, a more stable pH, and the electrolytes your body actually wants. And mineral-free water is great for your iron or steamer, too — no limescale buildup!
-
Actually, it's a downright great pairing. Softened water is missing magnesium and calcium and carries extra sodium. MY™ Station with MY™ Bases minerals turns it into the ideal drinking water. Your Super Filter will likely last longer, too.
-
Mineral Soft — clean, easy, everyday water for the whole family. Mineral Plus — a stronger mineral profile if you're active or sweat a lot. Mineral Alkaline — a higher-pH profile for anyone who prefers it, raising your water's pH by about a point. Your starter kit comes with two mineral refill bottles. You can mix and match different mineral profiles between them, and swap whenever you like. Extra refill bottles are available to buy separately.
-
40 litres per pouch. A pack has 4 pouches — 160 litres total.
-
We recommend using the mineral mix within about 30 days of inserting it into the device. On average, a family gets through one pack of minerals (40L of water) in around 10 days.
-
Yes — minerals are heat-stable and won't break down, hot or cold.
-
Any time — use multiple mineral profiles at once in different bottles.
-
The Minerals light turns red when it's time. Even if it hasn't yet, swap the mineral mix after 30 days for freshness.
-
Yes — if you've got a carbonator, go for it. Tastes even better.
